Crafts Study Centre

The Crafts Study Centre is a specialist university museum and world-renowned craft research centre open to the public. It is home to world-renowned collections of modern and contemporary British craft and is led by Dr. Stephen Knott.

An invaluable resource for practitioners, historians and theorists, the Centre's acclaimed collections include modern and contemporary calligraphy, ceramics, textiles, furniture and wood as well as associated archives that include diaries, working notes, sketches, samples, pamphlets and photographs.

Our collections of studio craft are open for consultation in our Research Room, which also houses a library of books and periodicals relating to craft. Please get in touch to arrange an appointment (details on website).

The CSC hosts inspiring exhibitions of work from its own collections and by leading artist-makers (approximately 4 exhibitions per year). We also support scholarship and debate about craft through our lectures, symposiums and open days and the publication of books about modern and contemporary craft.
