How you can get involved
In July, Stall Tales will be visiting selected markets – look out for the Stall Tales History Stall and come and share what you know about the history of London’s street markets and your ideas for activating their history and heritage.
Some of these activities are dependent on future funding: the more people engage now, the better our case will be for funding bids to the Heritage Lottery Fund and other potential supporters.
At the History Stall, or online, you can get involved by:
Sharing memories and histories
- Share your memories and old photographs of the history of the markets and tell us why you love the markets today
- Register your interest to take part in a future oral history interview to share your memories
- If you are a stall holder, or work to support a market, tell us about your history; how did you come to work in the market, and did your family run a stall before you? Are you interested in working with us to develop a ‘micro-exhibition’ to display on your stall showing visitors this heritage?

Participate in photo-projects
- If you’ve been shopping in a market, share your photos of What I Bought Today. Big or small, cheap or pricey, every-day or odd, we would love to see your finds!
- If you live ‘above’ a market, share your photos of Stalls from the Staircase following modernist photographer László Moholy-Nagy’s innovative 1930s photographs of market streets from elevated views.
