UCA’s new relationship with
National Theatre

The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) has cemented itself as a valued member and supporter of the theatre industry by joining ranks with the National Theatre.

Students from across UCA’s performing arts courses – including BA (Hons) Acting & Performing, BMus (Hons) Composition for Screen, BA (Hons) Design for Theatre & Screen and MA Screen Acting and Performance – will benefit from the new relationship.

Andrew Pritchard, Programme Director in Performing Arts, said: “We are incredibly excited to announce this new relationship with the National Theatre, it will provide UCA students with the opportunity to engage with one of the UK’s leading performing arts institutions through unique learning resources and exclusive behind the scenes access.”

“We will also be supporting the National Theatre in its extensive work with children, young people, communities, and theatre-makers nationwide.”

This new endeavour not only promises a variety of benefits and exclusive offers to students, such as discounts, behind-the-scenes tours, and special tickets, but includes access to National Theatre’s resources and collections, access to expert knowledge from sector-leading departments, and the potential for talks and Q&A’s.

Jane Ball, Education Manager at the National Theatre said: “We’re deeply grateful to UCA for joining the National Theatre as Members. This will offer UCA’s students fantastic opportunities to holistically learn about the craft of theatre making. From the broad resources available via the NT Collection, behind-the-scenes tours of the National Theatre, to Q&As with our creative partners, this is an incredibly exciting opportunity for UCA and its students."

Andrew added: “The National Theatre makes world-class theatre that is challenging, entertaining and inspiring, and it will play an integral role in supporting our students as they prepare for a career in the creative industries.”

To coincide with this new relationship, NT is also celebrating their 60th birthday by giving away 3,600 tickets available free to 16–25-year-olds, to see their productions on the South Bank and in the West End throughout October. On top of this, there will be a free YouTube stream of Shakespeare's Othello at 7pm on Thursday, 19 October.
