catch the new design lecture series

Two major names in UK design - Pascal Anson and Professor Graeme Brooker - are among the speakers in a new lecture series, kicking off the Autumn term for Furniture, Interiors and Product course.

Two major names in UK design - Pascal Anson and Professor Graeme Brooker - are among the speakers in a new lecture series, kicking off the Autumn term for Furniture, Interiors and Product course. Programme Director Mark Gower has devised the talks programme – entitled Remodelling – which starts this Thursday at 5pm. All talks are from 5-6pm – see below for Zoom links if you’d like to join.

For the first talk this week, as well as introducing the course to new students, Mark will be talking to Gabriella Evans, a recent graduate who now works at the Design Stories practice, about her move into the world of professional design.

Gabriella will be followed by Pascal Anson and Professor Graeme Brooker. Pascal joins Mark on Thursday 22 October, discussing designing everything from a jumbo jet to a business card. As well as his work as an artist, Pascal has his own design studio and is also known as a mentor on the BBC programme, The Big Painting Challenge.

The following Thursday, 29 October, Professor Brooker will be talking about his career as an author and academic specialising in interior design. Graeme is currently head of interior design at the Royal College of Art.

Mark said: “As designers of products, furniture and interiors one of our responsibilities is to look after this fragile planet we live on. The only way forward for us to achieve this is to work with what already exists around us, whether that is the reuse of materials or the remodelling of old appliances or existing buildings. The making or building from new will soon be an occupation of the past and the job at hand it is to adapt the existing environment and stuff that surrounds us.”
