The work of UCA Chancellor and renowned potter Magdalene Odundo is on show in a new exhibition at the Albion Barn gallery in Little Milton, Oxfordshire. Paired with nearly 50 of Constantin Brâncus?I’s photographs, her striking ceramics are given a new perspective.
The two artists share a common interest in the human form, which becomes an abstraction in both their work, as well as an interest in surfaces and in particular the special qualities of lustrous materials. Brancusi trained as a sculptor with Rodin and came late to photography – his mentors were Man Ray and Edward Steichen - but his roots in sculpture remain evident. Magdalene Odundo’s vessels have an essential sculptural quality enhanced by the unique patina of their surfaces, which are highly burnished in a lengthy manual process.
The show closes on Saturday 23 January 2021 with visits by appointment only.
