Art and literature exist in a symbiotic relationship. Writing can inspire artistic response or illustration and enhance the communication and understanding of a concept or event. Art, whether it be paintings, sculptures, or photographs, can prompt introspection and interpretation. It allows you to explore the emotions and ideas inspired by the artwork and add colour and dimension to your story.
In this workshop, we will immerse ourselves in the UCA Art Collection: Revealed exhibition and use a mix of exercises and discussion to explore different ways of translating the visual image into descriptive prose or poetic language.
Whether you're a seasoned writer or just starting out, this workshop is perfect for anyone looking to explore new ways to express themselves through words. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to mix art and words in a creative and supportive environment. See you there!
Creative Writer Lynn Hamilton, MA, PhD Lynn Hamilton is a writer with 30 years of experience in medical education and holds an MA and PhD in Creative Writing. In her PhD research project, Hamilton explored how the representation of war neurosis has shifted in fiction: from shell shock playing a part in communicating the impact of trauma on masculinity and the human psyche to PTSD driving stereotypes such as the broken hero. Her short stories - Stepping out of the Shadows - examine the multidimensional perspectives of PTSD beyond the battlefield and are a creative response to this research.
