Working in the gallery over the course of August and September, Walker’s resulting exhibition will comprise large-scale charcoal drawings made directly on to the gallery walls, which derive from photographs of anonymous individuals photographed by the artist in and around the Farnham area. Sub Urban considers stereotypes through the study of dress codes and fashion worn primarily by young people. Through the use of portraiture and ‘traditional’ materials, scale and intricate compositions, Walker’s art offers a powerful mediation on both the representation and social status of the young in contemporary Britain.
