Since mid-2019, inescapable anxiety and desperation has covered Hong Kong. The blunt and direct control from the Chinese government sparked fire on the streets. The fear of being controlled, the loss of autonomy and a daunting future became the motivation to ask for change. The Fist
In Hello Stranger, the tiny fragments of daily life construct the narrative and the notion. Instead of stressing the intense confrontation and the government's radical approach in reaction to the publics’ demands, Lee considers the implicit influences of daily life to give more of a sense of the whole picture. Therefore, following the violent protests and rallies, he began to dig into the physical presence left behind in the conflict between power and resistance in order to search for the fantasy that belongs to Lee and his beloved Hongkonger. The aftermath photograph displays the traumatic experience caused by political violence, projects the grief and loss generally shared and evokes the desire to be self-determined.
