What is Biophilia?
Biophilia literally translates “to love of organic life”. This theory developed by Edward O. Wilson, suggests that we are innately and emotionally attracted to Nature. Natural environments have proven to be a great outlet for stressful events, simply because nature makes us feel good, whether that is our mental or physical wellbeing. However, we find ourselves in a contradicting relationship, as we take for granted what was once a luscious forest and replace them with our urban jungles. This collection is inspired by Nature - from channelling natural textures to addressing environmental issues - Biophilia, encompasses the complexity of our perpetual relationship with Nature, through the diverse interpretation of these artists.
A visual inspiration is one of the many ways to channel Nature. Designer Tess Ellen Murral, is inspired by the textures and shape of mushrooms replicated in her elegant garments.
