Senior Lecturer in Product Design
Robin is the senior tutor on the BA (Hons) Product Design Course in Farnham. Robin joined UCA Rochester in 2002 as a senior lecturer on the BA (Hons) Product Design & New Media and BA (Hons) Furniture Design courses.
Bio
He subsequently became subject leader for Product Design from 2008. These roles involved developing course direction, applicant interviews, sessional appointments, tutorial and pastoral support, assessment, live project liaison and graduate shows. He is now senior tutor on the BA (Hons) Product Design course at Farnham, and specialist tutor for MA Product Design during 2015 and 2016.
Robin has international teaching experience at CCAC San Francisco, AIVE (Design Academy) Eindhoven and RCA London. He graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MDesRCA in Industrial Design, and worked as a product designer for 25 years with several design consultancies in London and a range of international clients, most notably IDEO Product Development in London and San Francisco.
Research statement
Robin's particular interest is in several aspects of product design and cross-disciplinary practice relating to wearable technology, fashion and trends, visual identity, branding and contemporary notions of luxury in 3D products.
Research supervision
Practice-based experience of textiles with integrated electronics developed by ElekSen and Hewlett-Packard; other applied materials and technology development such as the Queens Commonwealth Games Baton of 2002, with a pulse activated and programmed LED display.
