Nicola Truman

Nicola is a lecturer on the Fashion Business & Management BA (Hons) course at UCA Epsom. She has a wealth of recent buying and global sourcing experience in the delivery of customer focused ranges for branded and high street retailers. She uses her commercial insight to develop the knowledge of our students in the principles of the fashion industry.

Bio

After graduating from Manchester University (UMIST) in Textile Design and Management, Nicola started her career in a vertically integrated textile business and as a Product Developer for Crombie and Viyella. She then progressed her career as a Senior Buyer. During 17 years buying for Marks and Spencer, Nicola was accountable for market leading departments focusing on strategic range development for menswear and childrenswear.

Experienced in the leadership and coaching of successful buying teams, Nicola is passionate about developing our UCA students in the key commercial skills needed to thrive in the creative industries.

Research statement

Nicola’s current research considers how an understanding of mindset can support the learning journey. Her interests in creative pedagogy focus on students’ personal development planning which reflects on the role of transformational learning.
