Senior Lecturer in Fashion Management & Marketing
Mary has been Senior Lecturer on the Fashion Management & Marketing BA (Hons) course at UCA Epsom since it launched. She uses her in-depth, commercial knowledge of fashion industry sourcing from sketch to stores to great effect with our Year 3 students in developing ideas for a Gap in the Market.
Bio
Mary makes sure students' ideas are innovative but also commercially focused. She is passionate about ensuring students gain a real understanding of the fashion industry during their time at Epsom, merging academic study with industry experiences to enable them to graduate equipped with the creative, future thinking and business focused skills they need to excel in the fashion industry.
Graduating from Cambridge University, Mary progressed from a trainee buyer, through senior buying roles to Head of Buying, sourcing and developing ranges from all over the world for some of the High Street’s biggest most fashion forward brands. As Head of Buying at Topshop Mary was instrumental in the regeneration of Topshop as the international fashion power force it is now. As well as controlling multi-million pound buying budgets for international retailers, Mary has entrepreneurial experience of launching a small business. She was co-founder of contemporary womenswear label Allium B.
Research statement
Experience in global sourcing for fast fashion brands as well as a small business has led Mary to question the ethics of the labour behind the label and she has begun to explore research into the future of fashion production.
