Marike Spangenberg is a South African illustrator and educator with an MA in Visual Arts, focusing on narrative illustration.
Bio
Marike’s teaching practice is concerned with expanding the traditional paradigm of illustration, exploring an Afrocentric approach to illustration practice, as well as applying alternative making/thinking approaches within the illustration context. Her research interests involve narrative theory within a postmodernist/poststructuralist framework, graphic novels and other forms of sequential narratives, memory as fragmented, fictional and unreliable and how these all relate to life writing and autobiography.
Marike’s creative practice deals with storytelling, personal experience and human connection to nature.
