Senior Lecturer in Fashion Communication
Elizabeth Barnett is Senior Lecturer in Fashion Communication and an award-winning journalist, stylist and brand consultant. She joined the Business School for the Creative Industries (BSCI), University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in January, 2023.
Bio
An alumnus of UCA, Epsom, Elizabeth progressed from fashion assistant at Elle magazine, to staff editorial roles on Vogue, InStyle and was Beauty Director of Britain’s top selling monthly magazine, Good Housekeeping. She has over a decade’s experience as an award-winning journalist, creative director and stylist producing beauty, fashion and celebrity features and photo shoots for some of the world’s top magazines, including InStyle; British Vogue; Vogue China, Harper’s Bazaar and as Beauty Director of Good Housekeeping. She has consulted and written advertising and marketing copy for brands including Harrods, Dior and Olay.
As a course leader and senior lecturer in Higher Education, she has led and developed curriculum for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Prior to her role at UCA’s Business School for the Creative Industries she was associate lecturer at London College of Fashion and programme leader for BA Fashion Promotion & Communication and BA Beauty Promotion, and a senior lecturer on MA Creative Direction for Fashion and Beauty at Southampton Solent University. She has also taught on the BA Fashion Marketing course at Regent’s University.
In April 2019, she was appointed President of the Education Pillar for the British Beauty Council, for whom she has championed talent, and hosted live industry events, webinars and the Careers Insights podcast series.
Elizabeth has validated degree courses across the UK in her role as a validation panelist for Open University. Elizabeth is an advocate for the use of fashion and beauty as an agent for innovation and change, particularly in the areas of sustainability, health and wellbeing. She recently completed a Master’s in Film Production (with Distinction).

Elizabeth’s research interests focus on an inter-disciplinary approach to fashion and beauty consumption and its relation to culture.
