Elisabeth Mulders

Originally from South Africa, Elisabeth has lived in the UK for 10 years. With over 10 years experience teaching general and academic English, she is currently the EAP lecturer for international foundation and pre-masters courses. She understands the difficulties international students have adapting to studying in the UK and Is committed to helping them understand best academic practice with a focus on writing skills.

Bio

Elisabeth’s experience prior to teaching has been wide and varied. Her educational background is science related and she started her working career in the mining industry. Subsequently, she worked for multiple airlines, travelling the world, living both in Switzerland and Germany. This included work as cabin crew as well as marketing and promotional tours. Subsequently she worked in the hospitality industry, managing a guest house, thus gaining first hand business experience.

Subsequently, Elisabeth moved into teaching, gaining first her CELTA In 2009 and later, in 2017, the DELTA.

Teaching has provided her with international opportunities, working in Spain, Ireland and the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador.

This varied experience has given her a very broad understanding of different cultures as well as educational settings, meaning she Is able to bring this knowledge to the classroom in order to better support international students and the difficulties they may face.

Research statement

Elisabeth’s research interests include student engagement as well as issues related to essay writing such as academic misconduct and the best pedagogical steps required to minimising this and adapting to study in the UK.
