Bio
Graduating with a BA (Hons) in Photography from UCA Farnham (then the Surrey Institute of Art and Design), David went on to study on the MA Fine Art programme at The Slade School of Fine Art (University College London).
He was a founding editor of ‘covered in toner’, a small press dedicated to producing and distributing affordable, unlimited editions by artists and writers at book fairs, galleries, and specialist retailers. David currently co-edits Photomonitor, an online journal of contemporary photography established in 2011 and now ‘in residency’ at UCA.
Research statement
David completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education in 2015, leading to a commitment to UCA’s research pathway in creative education and an ongoing series of guides, toolkits, and initiatives for new and progressing students.
David’s own practice involves both photography and text. His work, almost wholly on the page, plays with the telling and sharing of stories, and with ideas of attention and appreciation of the everyday.
David has been an active member of UCA Farnham’s ‘bookRoom’ research cluster since its inception in 2005. The cluster examines shifts in the production and distribution of artists’ books with regular symposia chaired by bookRoom members.
