Senior Lecturer in Fashion Trends & Sustainability
Celina is a Senior Lecturer in Trends and Sustainability across Undergraduate and Postgraduate Business School courses at UCA. She is an experienced graphic and printed textile designer, specialising in print design, trend research and creative management. Celina uses her practitioner insights to guide UCA students’ skills’ and knowledge development, preparing them for the creative industries.
Bio
Celina joined UCA Epsom in April 2023. Previously she taught at Arts University Bournemouth as a Senior Lecturer on the BA(Hons) Fashion and BA(Hons) Fashion Branding and Communication courses there. She has also worked for Kingston University and Brazilian education institutions.
Celina enjoys bridging the gap between business and creativity and makes sure students develop these skills during their time at UCA. She holds an MA in Managing in the Creative Economy (Distinction) from Kingston University and a BA (Hons) in Visual Communication from PUC-Rio, Brazil (First). She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and is currently working on gaining the fellowship.
Before moving into academia, Celina worked internationally for 20 years in the fashion industry for brands, magazines, design studios and textile companies. As a result, Celina’s work can be found at Zara, Mango, M&S, Osklen, Farm Rio, C&A, Ipanema, and on the high streets and catwalks around the globe. She also has entrepreneurial experience, having started her own creative consultancy business when she moved to the UK from Brazil in 2015.
Research statement
Celina’s multidisciplinary experiences have led her to become involved in adapting traditional business and entrepreneurship practices for creative fields and enabling students and creative professionals to thrive in their careers through their creativity, strengths, skills, and passions. She is particularly interested in trends, consumer behaviour, printed textiles, sustainability in fashion and visual literacies.
